The Verse:
Mary and Martha, sisters with good will
Had a brother Lazarus who was quite ill
They did send for Jesus, hoped he'd come real quick
For His good friend Lazarus was very very sick

Jesus spoke right up while on his way did plod
This sickness wasn't unto death, but for glory of God
His disciples wondered why he hadn't made a fuss
'Cause they knew he loved his friends, especially Lazarus

So they did stay with him and all their faith did grow
Waiting two more days, then to Judea they would go
Then He did walk with them so that His will would keep
Saying now “I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.”

But the disciples didn't know just what the Lord had said
So He said to them real plainly, “Lazarus is dead.”
And the Lord was glad that it took long to leave
For the work that now He'd do would help disciples to believe

When Jesus did arrive, the people's hopes He could not raise
For His friend Lazarus was dead and in the tomb for four whole days
Then did Martha come to Jesus and to Him she sadly cried
“ Lord if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.”

She knew the Lord's tremendous power, to him she did decree
“Whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee”
Then the Lord did turn to Martha for she was a chosen friend
With love and faith he said to her, “Thy brother shall live again;”

She knew in God's appointed time, her brother then would thrive
Then Jesus said “I am the resurrection and the life.
He that believeth in me though he were dead
Yet shall he live,” were words of faith the Savior said

“And whosoever liveth and believeth on me
Shall never die” words spoken by the man from Galilee
He wondered if to Martha all these words sufficed
Then she stated her belief in Him, “Thou art the Christ.”

Then the Master called for Mary and she very quickly came
And she fell down at his feet and then these words she did exclaim
“Lord if thous hadst been here, my brother had not died.”
Jesus looked into her face and saw the mournful tears she cried

He groaned then in his spirit, and was troubled deep within
For the lack of faith they had in Him and work He'd now begin
He asked where Lazarus was laid, where body now was kept
Then the scripture simply stated very clearly Jesus wept.

The Jews proclaimed he wept because of his devoted love
For Lazarus he surely could have drawn from powers above
If He had only been here just before His friend had died
He surely could have healed him and helped Lazarus survive

The guardians of the cave he asked to please remove the stone
But Martha bade Him not to for the stench of flesh and bone
But Jesus knew that even though to Martha this seemed odd
If she'd believe she'd surely see the glorious power of God

He thanked His father up above that soon no more would grieve
And now the words that He would say would help them to believe
His faith was pure, his will was God's undeviating course
He turned toward the tomb and cried out “Lazarus, come forth”

Then from the grave the dead man came in wrapped and ragged clothes
Then all who saw were struck with awe as Lazarus arose
And Jesus said to loose his bonds so that he may go free
While many Jews who watched the sight did surely now believe

So Jesus power was strong enough to cause the dead to live
His faith was pure, His love was great, and he did freely give
So Lazarus had life anew and all his friends around
Knew the Lord had matchless power, and that by death could not be bound
